tracking
« on: April 19, 2008, 03:02:39 AM »
hey, i know you said before if you view someone's myspace page through your site, even if they have a tracker, they can't track you. Is this still true b/c i found that even though you view someones myspace page through your site, it still shows up as a profile view on their myspace page. So, does this mean if they have a tracker, they know that someone viewed their page but they can't identify who?

You are confusing a tracker with a page counter. The myspace page counter goes up when anything or anyone loads the page (If Google loads the page to index it and put it on its search engine, then that will count as a pageview.)

Trackers on the other hand, will let you identify who visited the page. My site takes several measures to prevent you from being tracked, but because of the nature of the site, the page MUST get loaded to view the profile information and as a side effect the page counter will go up.

Think about it this way though, how much information does a page counter give you? An unreliable count of how many "people" visit your page, but can you tell who it is and when that person visited?
